Recommended beaches to visit near Barcelona

One thing we really like to base in this city is the amount of options there are. Whether it’s cultural proposals, mountain breaks or Mediterranean beach days, it’s very difficult to get bored being here. That’s why today we share with you our recommended beaches to visit near Barcelona.

When is the best time to enjoy the beaches?

Although in Spain the summer is from June to September, beach days are enjoyed in both spring and autumn. Since May, some brave people have been daring to get into the sea and, as we can attest, in October the weather is still very pleasant.

In fact, the beaches can be enjoyed all year round. The weather usually always helps. And although in winter it’s not good enough to be in a bikini, with mate and a good book you can enjoy it just the same.

Recommended beaches to visit near Barcelona:

While the beaches of Barceloneta (in the heart of Barcelona) are not bad, they are often collapsed. Luckily, if you just move a little further away, wonders like the typical travel magazine coves appear.

It is estimated that there are more than 260 kilometres of beach in Catalonia, the options are many. There are sandy beaches, rocky beaches, coves, beaches that can be reached on foot and others with via ferrata for lovers of climbing. The question is to get out of the city, have fun and enjoy a different plan.

In Catalonia there are 2 large areas of beaches: The Costa Brava (on the way to France) and the Costa Dorada (towards Valencia).

⛵Vamos with our favourite beaches outside Barcelona:

🔝 San Pol del Mar: you can go by train or by car. There aren’t usually people, and the further you get away from the station, the more room there is. The beach is made of stones and the water is very crystalline. A little deep, though. The sea level drops very suddenly.

🔝 Waikiki or Cala Fonda: It is close to Tarragona, in a nature reserve. Which is why you only get there on foot. The walk is pleasant, through forest and with divine views. It is a naturist (i.e. nudist) beach.

🔝 Ocata: If you don’t want to go too far, Ocata or Mongat are fine. You arrive by train and they are wide and comfortable beaches.

🔝 Pálamos: Although Pálamos is more of a city, there are beautiful beaches in the surrounding area. In fact, there are several roads to travel that end in wild and quiet beaches.

🔝 Castelldefels: They are the most similar beaches to Argentina. Large, sandy beaches and sea with waves. I also think that is where more compatriots and yoruguas per square meter are condensed. It’s like being at home. It’s Zone 1, you arrive with the same urban transport as Barcelona.

🔝 Pálamos: Although Pálamos is more of a city, there are beautiful beaches in the surrounding area. In fact, there are several roads to travel that end in wild and quiet beaches.

The prawns and the seafood market in Pálamos are internationally renowned.

🔝 Tossa de Mar: Tossa is beautiful as a medieval village and as a beach area. The same as in Pálamos, it is worth going to the surrounding beaches. It is also a famous area for the possibility of diving and water activities.

🔝 If you want to leave Barcelona, don’t stay in Barceloneta. Bogatell or Nova Icaria are fine.
