If the fabada is always an essential dish in the restaurants of Asturias, these days the dish is made worldwide. From Zamora to Switzerland, from Madrid to Dubai, from Las Vegas to Mexico and, of course, in Asturias, the VI Ruta de la Fabada is celebrated, which includes a #FabadaDay on February 15th.
The Ruta de la Fabada has been held since 2015. In its first edition, 16 establishments from Madrid participated, but in this VI Ruta de la Fabada has 56 establishments distributed around the world, with 37 establishments in Spain (Madrid, Asturias and Zamora) and 19 establishments abroad (in Mexico, the United States, Switzerland and Dubai).
To promote this specific product and the hotel and catering trade that pampers it, Faba Asturiana I.G.P. (Protected Geographical Indication) is used to prepare the main course of the menus offered by the restaurants taking part in this edition, which also include a starter and a dessert.
The clients of these restaurants will be able, for example, to enjoy a Lubina with lime salt, some Fabes with squids in ink and a cocoa and yuzu temptation for only 25 Eur in “La Gran Vetusta” Cider House in Oviedo (Plaza Porlier, 5) or for only 20 Eur of Cream of andaricas, Fabada asturiana and Cheese cake in “Hotel OCA Palacio de La Llorea Spa” in Gijón (Golf Course La Llorea Carretera Canero-Ribadesella).
Rent a car with a discount of up to 15%:
In the province of Zamora, almost bordering on Portugal, the “Restaurante España” (Calle de Requejo, 16, Fermoselle) offers us some grilled Mushrooms, Fabes de la abuela in the style of Fermoselle, and biscuit cake for only 15 Eur. In Madrid, the “Restaurante Ferreiro Paseo de la Florida” (Paseo de la Florida, 15) serves Grilled Artichoke Flowers and Cod Fritters, Fabada Asturiana with its compango or Fabes with Clams, Pear Tart for only 35 Eur.
These are just a few examples of Spanish restaurants, but the VI Ruta de la Fabada is international, with participating establishments in Europe and other continents. You can check what they are, where they are and what dishes they offer in this gastro map:
As part of the Ruta de la Fabada, two important recognitions are established, “The best fabada in Madrid (traditional)” and “The best fabada in Madrid (with stumbles)”. The winners will be decided on February 11 at the Gastronomic Innovation Center in Platea by the organization of the VI Ruta de la Fabada.
But the Ruta de la Fabada VI is not limited to restaurants. Saturday February 15th is #FabadaDay, a celebration of fabada in restaurants and homes around the world that is shared on social networks with that hashtag.
